I spent 5 days in Varanasi way back in 2011 and this is my earliest street photography work. I also think there is a social documentary aspect to these images, telling a story of everyday life in this amazing city. Varanasi is situated on the banks of the River Ganges in Uttar Pradesh and is […]
Street Photography Galleries and Articles
For personal work street photography is my favourite photographic genre and these image galleries and articles feature my work on the streets.
I mostly shoot in monochrome/black and white, although some of my work is in colour. It depends on what I think best suits the image or series of images I'm shooting.
The use of standard 35mm or 50mm lenses has long been considered the classic approach for shooting on the streets. However, I find myself leaning more and more towards shooting street photography at the ultra wide to wide angle end of the spectrum using lenses in the 14-30mm range. This approach adds a certain dynamism to the resultant images, but you have to be brave and get in real close to make this technique work!
I also like to use additional techniques to make my street photographs more dynamic. Motion blur, shooting from high or low angles, shooting from the hip or playing with light and shadows are particular favourite approaches I like to incorporate into my work.
Finally, and most importantly, I'm always looking to capture "The Decisive Moment". A phrase and technique invented by Henri Cartier-Bresson, the Father of street photography.
I hope you enjoy my posts and images:

If you have read my street photography and social documentary page and looked at those images you will know that I am primarily interested in documenting daily life in a way that tells a story. I would say that is my core competency and specialist genre as a photographer at this point in time. I […]
Greetings from Hanoi, or Good Morning Vietnam as Robin Williams would yell (bless him). Hanoi is a gloriously, fabulously, insanely crazy city. In other words it’s awesome and I love it here! Hanoi is also a paradise for us urban and street photographers! I found a lovely little boutique hotel, the likes of which are […]
